With every game, Team Ninja becomes better at making action RPGs. Although they were once commended for an interesting take on the souls-like formula, their games have evolved into something else. Rise of the Ronin has surprised me in the best possible ways, and I can’t get enough of it. The Journey of a Lone Veiled Edge Image: Attack of the Fanboy Rise of the Ronin starts by introducing their fictional clan, the Veiled Edge. These are no ordinary warriors. Although often portrayed and referred to as Samurai, Veiled Edges are always trained in pairs and are as skilled in…

Mewgenics review: A strategy roguelite where you breed cats, send them on DnD campaigns, and try to come home with your loot (and limbs) in one piece. Even though it’s become a tired point of discussion and the center of some truly disheartening discourse, there’s a lot to like about Stellar Blade. Developer Shift Up’s debut PlayStation 5 title has been shown off for what feels like ages now, and the finished product is far more polished than you’d expect from a primarily mobile development studio. Still, despite its fantastic presentation and satisfying combat, Stellar Blade unfortunately falls a bit short compared to other games in the genre. Stellar Blade is a decent enough action game, though, and its great combat system does a lot to carry…

I’m not really into first-person shooters and roguelike games, so when I say that Mullet Mad Jack was a blast, that should mean something if you are into that kind of game. This fast-paced first-person retro shooter is something else. It’s a game created with love and care, packed with references to a bygone era that will make you feel nostalgic. It hooks you with a system that criticizes our dependency on dopamine while simultaneously using it to keep you playing. It’s pretty genius, honestly. You Have 10 Seconds Screenshot by Attack of the Fanboy Mullet Mad Jack has a…

While the wait for Dragon Quest XII continues, Square Enix has kept the fires burning for the Dragon Quest series by remaking some of the earlier entries. First, the legendary Dragon Quest III was given the HD-2D treatment while largely retaining its original structure. Next, Dragon Quest I & II underwent a similar process while also dramatically expanding on the sparser bones of those pioneering RPGs. While one might have expected Dragon Quest IV to be the next game to be reissued, Square Enix decided to hop ahead to the PlayStation Dragon Quest game, Dragon Quest VII. We’ve had plenty…

Your enjoyment of Stellar Cafe comes down to two things: how you feel about AI in video games and how good of a conversationalist you are. I’ve had some experience with AI-driven NPCs in games before, specifically in Skyrim (with mods) and former-social-VR-turned-MMORPG Riff XR. The difference with these two examples is that those games have much more to offer than said AI NPCs whereas Stellar Cafe lives and dies on the characters and your interactions with them. It makes for a unique experience that rolls credits before the fairly simple premise wears thin. The FactsWhat is it?: A voice-controlled narrative…

Your justification for starting as a salmon man in a barrel is that you are trying to get up the waterfall. This is, of course, something actual salmon do. So it follows from developer Valem Studio that it is something a salmon man in VR should do too.Salmon Man blends genuine fun and desire to keep going with the gut-wrenching pain of a tiny mistake ruthlessly chopping away at swathes of progress in a helpless instant. Paddle locomotion, it seems, has a frustrating charm almost tailored for the viral Internet landscape of modern gaming. Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy…

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7 campaign review A morass of jumped-up dream sequences, a repurposed multiplayer map, and poorly implemented coop, Black Ops 7’s campaign is a contender for the worst Call of Duty adventure yet. Image via Aquiris Game Studio I didn’t expect Horizon Chase 2 to look and feel so much better than its predecessor. | Published: May 31, 2024 07:31 pm There was something pure and absurdly fun about arcade racing games from the 90s. While this genre has not been popular for a long time, at least we have Aquiris Games Studio to thank for the absolute gem that Horizon Chase 2 is. Retro Music and Retro Visuals Made by a small team, Horizon Chase 2 is a game created with a clear vision, which I admire. It wasn’t trying to do…
